The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced that the government will introduce the Cooperative Mining Scheme in Obuasi to address the issue of youth unemployment.
According to the minister, the scheme will enable groups of at least five individuals to form cooperatives and obtain licenses for responsible mining.
He disclosed this on Monday at Kunsu in reaction to Nana Dr. Agyemang Badu Duah I’s appeal to the government to find a solution to the unemployment situation, which he said had aggravated following the suspension of the community mining scheme.
Dr. Amoakohene said the government has embarked upon a reclamation exercise to heal the lands that have deteriorated from the activities of illegal mining.
He also commended the youth of Ahafo Ano South for the role they have been playing in support of the reclamation of the degraded lands.
