The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Madam Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has commissioned six development projects valued at over GH¢1.18 million across four communities in the Municipality.
The projects, which cost GH¢1,182,309.68, include four mechanised boreholes and two educational facilities—an eight-seater washroom and a refurbished kindergarten block for the Bediem Experimental Basic School.
The borehole projects were commissioned in Awonakrom, Bediem, Kulem and the Railways enclave to improve access to potable water for residents.
Addressing beneficiaries during the commissioning, Madam Faustilove urged community members to take ownership of the projects to ensure their sustainability.
She expressed concern over the poor maintenance culture often associated with public facilities and appealed to residents to protect the investments.
“These projects are meant to serve you for a long time. It is your responsibility to ensure they are properly maintained and used for their intended purpose,” she stated.
The MCE attributed the successful execution of the projects to government support, expressing gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for making resources available.
She also commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, for his leadership and support in facilitating development in the Municipality.
On behalf of the Bediem Experimental Basic School, the Municipal Director of Education, Mr Alfred George Koomson, thanked the Assembly for the intervention and encouraged both staff and pupils to maintain the facilities.
Residents in the beneficiary communities also expressed appreciation for the projects, particularly the boreholes, noting that access to clean water had been a major challenge.
“With the water situation in some areas affected by pollution, this intervention is timely. Water is life, and this will greatly improve our living conditions,” one resident remarked.
The commissioning exercise, which spanned two days, was attended by the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr David Odoom, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, Assembly Members and staff of the Assembly.
The projects form part of ongoing efforts by the Obuasi Municipal Assembly to improve basic infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for residents. The six projects are part of 19 others due for commissioning by June this year.
