Pupils at the Kaneshie Cluster of Schools are set for better learning conditions after the Mayor of Accra, Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and Okaikwei South MP, Mr Ernest Adomako, cut sod for a new three-storey classroom block on Monday in Accra.
The mayor said, “The project was a fulfilment of a promise made to the people of Okaikwei South and part of a broader development agenda being pursued in the area.”
He described it as one piece of a wider development push that will turn the constituency into a “construction site,” with roads and drainage works also in the plan.
He also made a direct jobs appeal stating that “at least 90% of site workers should come from the community, with materials sourced from local cement dealers and block manufacturers to create both direct and indirect employment”.
Member of Parliament for the area, Ernest Adomako, indicated that “the facility, when completed, would provide a more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning, help address overcrowding and inspire both pupils and teachers to strive for excellence.
He said the six-month project also includes rehab works on the school’s ICT block, ancillary facilities, and a football pitch for the 198 pupils currently enrolled.
