The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has announced that the Region’s upcoming 24-hour markets would each have a branch of the proposed Women’s Development Bank, aimed at improving access to credit and financial services for women entrepreneurs and businesses.
He indicated that the integrated design would expand opportunities for local businesses and complement the government’s broader 24-hour economy programme.
He made this announcement on Friday during site handover and sod-cutting ceremonies in Bawku West District, Bolgatanga Municipal, Kasena Nankana West District, and Kasena Nankana Municipal.
Mr Akamugri explained that each market would be developed as an integrated commercial centre to support continuous economic activity and would include facilities such as lockable shops, trading stalls, a mini-mart, and warehouse space.
To support wholesale trade and specialised goods handling, the markets would also feature cold storage units, a meat section, and a bulk-breaking area.
For round-the-clock operations, each complex would have police, fire, and security posts, alongside clinics and pharmacies, as well as social and recreational facilities such as food courts, restaurants, gyms, and Day Care Centres to serve traders and customers.
