Trade Minister Meets UK And Chinese Envoys to Advance Ghana’s Trade and Investment Agenda

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening trade relations with China and the UK.

In the meeting held on Monday, in Accra, the Minister received the UK High Commissioner and the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana for separate discussions on expanding bilateral trade and investment.

The Minister held discussions with the United Kingdom High Commissioner, Ambassador Christian Rogg, on preparations for the Ghana-UK Investment Summit, scheduled for 1st to 2nd June, 2026, in London.

Madam Ofosu-Adjare noted that the United Kingdom remains one of Ghana’s largest trading partners and urged UK companies to consider manufacturing directly from Ghana.

She disclosed plans to establish three garment factories in Ghana during 2026, saying the initiative would create jobs and generate wealth for Ghanaians.

H.E. Christian Rogg affirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to working closely with Ghanaian counterparts towards a productive summit.

In a separate meeting with the Chinese ambassador, Mr Cong Song, the discussion focused on the implementation of the Chinese zero-tariff agreement, which is expected to open up greater market access for Ghanaian products in China.

She stated that Chinese companies should consider sourcing more products from Ghana to help reduce the trade deficit.

Madam Ofosu-Adjare also indicated her intention to travel to China to attract a minimum of 20 investors into the country and assured Ambassador Song that the government would ensure the effective implementation of the China-Ghana zero-tariff agreement.

Ambassador Song extended a formal invitation to the Minister to participate in the November 2026 Shanghai Import and Export Exhibition.
