Government has announced programmes for the three days of national mourning from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 9, 2025, to honor the eight people who died in Wednesday’s helicopter crash.

A press statement signed by Government Spokesperson, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the solemn period is dedicated to honoring the departed and providing an opportunity for national reflection and remembrance following the tragedy that claimed two cabinet ministers and six other officials.

Activities commenced Thursday with a public laying of flowers and lighting of candles at the Ceremonial Garden at the front of the Presidency from 1:00 pm. Members of the public, families, and friends have been invited to participate in the act of remembrance.

The opportunity for laying flowers and lighting candles will continue on Friday, August 8, 2025, allowing further time for citizens to express their condolences and respect for the victims of the crash.

The period of national mourning will conclude on Saturday, August 9, 2025, with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” beginning at 5:00 PM at the Forecourt of the State House, where all Ghanaians and families will gather to reflect on the legacy and contributions of the departed.

“These three days offer our nation a vital opportunity to collectively mourn and reflect on the profound loss we have experienced.

“We urge all citizens to observe the period of national mourning with dignity and respect,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu stated in the press release.

The victims include Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, along with Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed and three military personnel.

Government has indicated that further details regarding the State Funeral and any additional arrangements will be communicated through official government channels as the nation continues to process the loss of the senior officials.
