Ghana Reaffirms Security Partnership with Germany

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s security architecture through strategic international partnerships, following a high-level meeting with the German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft.

The Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Minister in Accra, where discussions centred on deepening bilateral cooperation in key areas of security and development. The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to consolidate ties between Ghana and Germany.

At the meeting, the Minister emphasised the need to strengthen surveillance systems, improve inter-agency coordination, and enhance responses to migration-related concerns.

He also lauded Germany’s contribution to climate-security initiatives, indicating the government’s readiness to deepen cooperation in that area.

The Minister pointed to the successful extension of the Coastal States Stability Mechanism, which he said has significantly improved coordination on border security.

He acknowledged that security challenges in Northern Ghana persist, describing the situation as complex and requiring continued international collaboration.

The Interior Minister assured the German delegation of the Ministry’s open-door policy and expressed optimism about expanding collaboration to promote peace and security across the country and the wider sub-region.

Mr Muntaka expressed appreciation for Germany’s consistent support for Ghana’s security framework, noting that such partnerships remain critical to safeguarding national and regional stability.

Ambassador Landshöft commended the long-standing relationship between the two countries, describing it as one of Germany’s most effective international partnerships.

He highlighted ongoing collaboration on security, particularly through training and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen Ghana’s resilience against emerging threats.

Referencing a recent visit to border communities in the Northern Region, the Ambassador stressed the importance of sustained cooperation in addressing evolving security challenges, especially in vulnerable areas.
