He said this at the 76th Annual Plenary Session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme on Monday in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to him, Ghana has made significant progress in collaborating with countries of origin to ensure the effective implementation of all aspects of durable solutions, including their legal dimensions.
Addressing the Global Refugee Crisis and outlining Ghana’s contributions to refugee protection and durable solutions, the Minister underscored Ghana’s commitment to ensuring that the ideals of the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR) remain unshaken.
He noted that Ghana is working with the UNHCR to implement the Ghana Refugee Agribusiness Sustainability Programme (GRASP), which aims to establish a flagship livelihood activity for refugees and their host communities.
Mr Muntaka further explained that Ghana has also partnered with neighbouring countries to develop a sub-regional strategy for reinforcing national security while guaranteeing refugee protection and facilitating durable solutions.
The Minister commended the outgoing UNHCR High Commissioner, Mr Filippo Grandi, for his remarkable leadership and tireless dedication to protecting refugees and promoting their rights.
