The Ghana Navy has reinforced its commitment to modernising and strengthening its operational readiness in maritime security operations with the successful conduct of Exercise Blue Screen, a quadcopter drone capability demonstration.
Unlike previous drills, this exercise held at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) showcased strong inter-unit collaboration, bringing together the Special Boat Squadron (SBS), the Signals Training School, and supporting stakeholders.
The joint effort emphasised the Navy’s emphasis on synergy and operational readiness as it adapts to evolving maritime threats.
The Flag Officer Commanding ENC, Mr Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, who served as the Guest of Honour, noted the strategic importance of unmanned aerial systems in contemporary naval warfare.
He commended personnel for their professionalism and forward-thinking approach, noting that the integration of drone surveillance with maritime interdiction operations represents a transformative step in planning and execution.
Combining aerial intelligence with maritime interdiction, the exercise demonstrated how technology can reduce risks to personnel while enhancing precision in tackling piracy, smuggling, trafficking, illegal fishing, and other transnational maritime threats.
