The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Mr Samuel Nartey George, has underscored the importance of stronger collaboration between political leadership and the Civil Service to improve governance and accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
The Minister made the remarks on Wednesday, when he received a delegation from the Ghana Civil Service Council aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and enhancing public sector service delivery.
The engagement forms part of a nationwide exercise by the Council across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to deepen understanding of institutional operations, assess operational challenges, and align administrative support with national development priorities.
Mr George reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging digital technology to improve service delivery, bridge access gaps, and support inclusive national development.
He also briefed the Council on key achievements and ongoing institutional reforms within the Ministry, noting that efforts are being intensified to improve efficiency and strengthen performance across the sector.
The Minister highlighted flagship initiatives, including the One Million Coders Programme and the President’s launch of Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, describing them as critical interventions toward building a digitally skilled and innovation-driven economy.
According to him, effective coordination between the policy and administrative arms of government remains essential to achieving sustainable impact in Ghana’s digital transformation drive.
Mr George stressed the need for closer collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service and the Civil Service Council to ensure the successful implementation of the government’s digital agenda.
The Minister briefed the delegation on the ongoing SIM card registration exercise, emphasising its importance in strengthening national security and improving the integrity of Ghana’s telecommunications ecosystem.
The Chairman of the Council, Dr Lawrence Kannae, noted that the engagements provide an opportunity for the Council to interact with MDAs on their mandates, strategic priorities, operational realities, and key challenges while gathering first-hand insights to inform policy and administrative improvements.
Dr Kannae added that the exercise also seeks to promote performance-driven public service practices and support economic transformation through stronger sector coordination.
