Ghana Association of Social Workers Assures the Gender Minister of Its Dedication to Supporting the Vulnerable

The Ghana Association of Social Workers (GASOW) has assured the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, of their dedication to promoting social welfare and supporting vulnerable persons across the country through professional social work practice.

They made this assurance during a working visit to the Minister in Accra on Wednesday.

The delegation led by its Vice President, Madam Joyce Kulevo, highlighted its longstanding advocacy for the legalisation and regulation of the social work profession in Ghana, noting that efforts to pass the proposed Social Work Council Bill had reached an advanced stage.

She said the proposed legislation seeks to establish clear professional standards, regulate qualifications and practice within the profession and strengthen the delivery of social services in the country.

GASOW further assured the Minister of its readiness to support the Ministry through advocacy, policy expertise, capacity building, research, and professional consultation to strengthen social protection systems and improve the welfare of vulnerable groups in Ghana.

Addressing the delegation, the Minister commended GASOW for its continued advocacy and professional contribution to social development.

She acknowledged the importance of strengthening the social work profession and was confident that the ministry would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to advance ongoing discussions on the proposed regulatory framework.

Dr Naa Momo Lartey encouraged continuous engagement and technical consultation to ensure that policy processes in the sector are inclusive and well-informed.
