Communications Minister Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Digital Skills Development

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equipping Ghanaians with digital and coding skills to enable them to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.

The Minister gave the assurance on Wednesday during an inspection tour of selected training centres under the One Million Coders Program (OMCP) in the Greater Accra Region.

The monitoring exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure quality delivery and operational readiness of the programme, which is a key component of the government’s digital transformation agenda.

During the tour, Mr George visited centres including the Accra College of Education in Ayawaso West, Gbegbeise JHS in Ablekuma West, and the Mamprobi Community Information Centre in Ablekuma South.

At the various centres, the Minister interacted with trainees, facilitators, and coordinators to gain first-hand insight into the learning experience, progress made, and challenges confronting participants under the initiative.

Mr George described the One Million Coders Program as a cornerstone of Ghana’s digital transformation efforts aimed at ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind in the digital revolution.

“This programme is about creating opportunities. We are building a future where young people across the country have access to the digital skills they need to compete globally and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he stated.

The Minister also assessed infrastructure, internet connectivity, and the overall readiness of the centres to support both in-person and online learning.

He commended the dedication of facilitators and the enthusiasm of trainees, assuring them that the government remains committed to improving the programme through continuous engagement and feedback.

He expressed the view that the initiative would play a significant role in empowering the youth, promoting innovation and creating employment opportunities in Ghana’s growing digital economy.
