Government Takes Social Protection Services to the Krowor Community

The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has described social protection as an investment in human dignity, social stability, and national development rather than charity.

She said this at a community durbar on social protection organised by the Ministry together with the Krowor Municipal Assembly to teach residents about government support programmes and raise awareness about important social issues in the community.

She added that the durbar sought to make government more accessible to the public, ensure no vulnerable group is excluded, and educate communities on key social issues such as domestic violence, child labour, child trafficking, teenage pregnancy, mental health, illicit drug abuse, and child protection.

She indicated that the government has enhanced programmes such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) initiative, services for persons with disabilities, and child protection measures to improve the well-being of vulnerable families.

Dr Naa Momo Lartey further encouraged residents to actively participate in government programmes and take advantage of the opportunities and information shared during the dialogue. She reaffirmed her commitment as Minister and a Member of Parliament to continue advocating interventions that promote the welfare and well-being of all Ghanaians.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Krowor Municipal Assembly, Ing. Paul Afotey Quaye, stated the importance of community participation, collaboration with traditional authorities, and access to information in improving livelihoods and promoting inclusive development.

As part of the outreach, free NHIS registration and renewal services were provided for residents, while sanitary pads were distributed to school girls to support menstrual hygiene and girls’ education.

The event brought together traditional authorities, assembly members, community leaders, departmental heads, youth groups, and residents within the municipality.

Participants commended the initiative and called for sustained community engagement to address social challenges and improve access to government support services.
