Accra Mayor Calls for Strict Observance of Ga State Drumming and Noise-Making Ban

Accra Mayor, Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has urged residents, religious bodies, and traditional groups to fully comply with the ban on drumming and noise-making currently in effect across the Ga State, stressing that cooperation is key to maintaining peace and order.

The mayor appealed for strict adherence to the annual ban on drumming and noise-making, which restricts loud music, drumming, clapping, and the use of microphones and loud instruments in public and religious gatherings.

Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey made the appeal on behalf of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Monday, at the commencement of the ban, noting that the AMA is working with the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, and Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo to ensure the customary law is respected.

The directive, which applies to all affected communities within the Ga State under the jurisdiction of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, will be enforced in collaboration with the Ga Traditional Council and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council.

The mayor said the restriction will remain in place for the duration of the customary period observed by the Ga State, explaining that the ban forms part of the Ga State customary practice and is intended to promote peace, unity, and development.

He noted the period should be seen not only as a restriction but also as a time for reflection, prayer, and peace for Ghana.

All persons living and working in the affected areas, including churches and mosques, are expected to comply by avoiding drumming, loud music, noise-making, and other disruptive activities.

The mayor warned that authorities will strictly enforce the directive and appealed to residents not to defy it or create tension with traditional authorities.
