The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has assured the Regional Media Advocacy for Health, Environment and Science Network (REMAPSEN) of government support towards the successful hosting of the 2026 Africa Media Forum and Awards in Ghana.
The assurance was given when a delegation from REMAPSEN paid a courtesy call on the Minister to formally introduce the network and discuss possible areas of collaboration ahead of the major continental event scheduled for the second week of October 2026.
During the meeting, the Minister acknowledged the role REMAPSEN plays in promoting advocacy on health, environmental sustainability, and science reporting across Africa through the media.
He commended the network for its contribution to strengthening responsible journalism and public awareness on issues affecting communities across the continent.
The Country Coordinator of REMAPSEN, Emefa Atiamoah Eli, highlighted the organisation’s growing influence across West and Central Africa, noting that the network currently operates in more than 43 countries with membership drawn from reputable media organisations.
According to her, Ghana’s selection as the host country for the 2026 Africa Media Forum and Awards reflects the country’s vibrant media landscape and commitment to professional journalism.
Madam Eli expressed confidence that with the support of the government and collaboration from key stakeholders, the event would help promote ethical journalism while positioning Ghana prominently on the continental stage.
She further noted that the forum would provide a platform for journalists, media practitioners, policymakers, and development partners to exchange ideas and strengthen media advocacy on critical health, science, and environmental issues confronting Africa.
The 2026 REMAPSEN Africa Media Forum and Awards is expected to attract participants from across the continent and further enhance Ghana’s reputation as a centre for media development and democratic engagement in Africa.
