Government’s “Big Push” Agenda Key to Future-Ready Infrastructure – Works and Housing Minister

The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building resilient, future-ready infrastructure as Ghana increases investment across sectors of the economy.

Speaking at the 31st Conference of the Federation of International Consulting Engineers (FIDEC), dubbed the “2026 FIDEC Africa Infrastructure Conference” in Accra, the Minister said the government was taking decisive steps to align national development priorities with the broader continental agenda for sustainable growth and innovation.

Addressing participants on the conference theme, “Future-Ready Infrastructure: Advancing Africa through Innovation and Sustainability,” he highlighted the government’s flagship “Big Push” infrastructure programme as a major step towards the country’s transformation agenda.

According to him, the initiative would invest in key sectors, including roads, bridges, railways, water systems, housing, and renewable energy, with the ultimate goal of building a resilient and competitive economy capable of meeting the demands of the future.

The Minister stressed that infrastructure development must go beyond meeting present needs, urging engineering professionals to place greater emphasis on durability, adaptability, and sustainability in their work.

Mr Adjei urged members of FIDEC to anticipate emerging challenges and design systems that can withstand not only today’s pressures but also the uncertainties of tomorrow.

He called for stronger collaboration among governments, engineers, consultants, and industry stakeholders to drive meaningful progress across the continent.
