The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has met with heads of agencies and engineering entities under his ministry to assess Ghana’s preparedness ahead of this year’s rainy season.
During the meeting on Wednesday, the Minister stressed the importance of delivering these interventions on schedule to minimise the impact of seasonal flooding on communities and businesses.
Projects currently under review include drainage and improvement works at the Odawa channel at Achimota and Nima, reconstruction of the South Kaneshie Bridge as part of the Kaneshie Drain channel works, additional interventions under the Kaneshie Drain Channel Reconstruction (Lot 2), drainage improvement works at Achimota Abofu, and dredging of the Odaw River main channel.
Mr Adjei affirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging contractors and supervising agencies to uphold quality standards and ensure timely delivery.
The meeting brought together supervisors of ongoing flood mitigation projects across the capital, with discussions centred on progress updates and timelines for completion.
