The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations due to various infractions of broadcasting regulations.
This decision follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama, which allowed defaulting stations to correct their violations of FM radio broadcasting laws in Ghana.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the NCA stated that six stations failed to take any action during the regulatory amnesty, leading to their suspension.
These stations include Donplus Multimedia Limited, Dreams Ghana Media Limited, Jam Multimedia Limited, Jewel Group Limited, Kpandal Star Community Radio, and Unique Gateway Communication Limited.
It also noted that, while some stations made efforts to address their breaches during the amnesty period, three others did not rectify certain violations, including unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter sites. As a result, Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi has had its operations suspended for failing to obtain a Certificate of Compliance.
The NCA has reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the broadcasting landscape to ensure compliance with relevant authorisation conditions and the laws governing broadcasting services in Ghana.
