As part of efforts to promote migration and the free movement of people in the ECOWAS sub-region, Media Response, a non-governmental, non-profit organisation, held a training workshop for journalists in Takoradi.
Through the workshop, over 100 journalists, reporters, bloggers and communication officers were trained in digital content creation and mini-video blogging on free movement and migration in West Africa.
Organised under the project titled “Reframing Narratives on Free Movement and Migration in West Africa,” the workshop aimed to equip media practitioners with the basic knowledge and skills necessary for digital content creation and mini-video blogging.
As part of the training, the participants were exposed to the ECOWAS Free Movement Protocols and the rights and obligations of migrants.
Addressing the participants during the opening ceremony, Mr Samuel Dodoo, the Executive Director of Media Response, stated that the same training would be replicated in two other regions, including the Volta and Upper East Regions.
He urged them to take the training seriously, saying a digital content creation and mini-video competition will be organised for them sometime this year.
He entreated the trainees to apply ethical journalism principles in reporting on migration, stressing that their stories should be human-centred, protect vulnerable groups and avoid stereotypes and misinformation.
