The Government has urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid non-essential travel to certain areas of Mexico due to violent unrest in six specific areas in the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Accra.
This follows the operation conducted by Mexican security forces on 22nd February, 2026, which resulted in the death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, otherwise known as El Mencho (the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel), and the coordinated cartel retaliation across multiple states of Mexico.
It noted that the advisory covers the states of Jalisco, Baja California, Colima, Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Oaxaca.
“The unrest has been marked by armed clashes, the burning of vehicles and road blockages, leading to casualties and disruption to daily life,” it added.
The statement urged Ghanaian citizens to remain vigilant and limit their movement to what is strictly necessary.
According to the release, Ghanaian citizens in the jurisdiction are encouraged to maintain communication with the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., which is concurrently accredited to Mexico for consular assistance if the need arises.
“The hotline of the Embassy of Ghana in Washington D.C. is +1 202 709 0568,” it noted.
The Government of Ghana conveyed its solidarity with the Government of the United Mexican States and expressed its confidence in the Mexican authorities’ ability to bring the situation under control.
