KWAEBIBIREM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY USES RADIO ENGAGEMENT TO PROMOTE RTI AWARENESS IN KADE

The Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly has intensified public education on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989) through a radio sensitization programme on Fresh FM in Kade. The engagement, held on 17th April, 2026, formed part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to deepen public understanding of the RTI Law and encourage active citizen participation in governance through access to information.

Leading the discussion, the Right to Information Officer of the Assembly educated listeners on the provisions and practical relevance of the RTI Act in everyday life. The programme opened with the thought-provoking question, “Do you know that you have a legal right to access information from public institutions?” This set the stage for an engaging and interactive discussion aimed at demystifying the law and bringing it closer to the people it serves.

During the sensitization, listeners were taken through key aspects of the law, including the procedures for requesting information, response timelines, the responsibilities of public institutions, and categories of exempt information. The Information Officer also highlighted how citizens can use the RTI Act to seek information on local development projects, monitor service delivery, and better understand the use of public resources. The discussion emphasized that the law is a vital tool for promoting transparency, accountability, and public trust in governance.

The programme generated significant interest among listeners and encouraged greater civic consciousness within the municipality. As questions and contributions flowed from the audience, it became evident that awareness of the RTI Law is steadily growing among community members. The engagement reaffirmed the important role of Information Officers in promoting public education and strengthening open governance through continuous community outreach initiatives.
