The Right to Information (RTI) Officers of the Tano South Municipal Assembly have intensified public education efforts on the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) through community engagement programmes aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance. On April 15, 2026, the officers conducted a sensitisation programme at Two Brother’s Information Centre in the Tano South Municipality to educate residents on their constitutional right to access information held by public institutions.
During the programme, the RTI Officers explained that the RTI Act, which is anchored on Article 21 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, serves as a vital tool for strengthening participatory democracy and open governance. The officers highlighted the importance of access to information as a fundamental human right and educated participants on the procedures involved in requesting information from public institutions. Community members were informed about the need to follow the approved application process through designated RTI Officers, as well as the applicable fees associated with information requests under the law.

The interactive sensitisation programme provided listeners and community members with the opportunity to phone in, ask questions, and seek clarification on the practical application of the RTI Act in their daily lives. The RTI Officers responded comprehensively to the concerns raised, ensuring that participants gained a clearer understanding of their rights and responsibilities under the law. The engagement also underscored the critical role Information Officers play in bridging the information gap between public institutions and citizens through continuous public education and awareness creation.
The exercise formed part of ongoing efforts by the Municipal Assembly to deepen public understanding of the RTI Law and encourage citizens to actively participate in governance and development processes within their communities. The sensitization was led by RTI Officers Sandra Ansu Amponsah, Kwaku Afrifa Asare, and Oteng Prince, whose efforts continue to promote openness, accountability, and informed citizen engagement across the Municipality.
