The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, in a significant move to enhance local economic activity, has officially launched the construction of a 24-hour Economy Market in Karaga District, intending to stimulate economic growth and improve livelihoods for residents.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday in the Karaga District.
Mr Ali Adolf John described the market as a transformative project under the government’s 24-hour Economy policy, designed to create jobs and enhance productivity, adding that the market will serve as a modern commercial hub, allowing traders and farmers to operate beyond traditional hours, thus increasing their incomes and reducing post-harvest losses.
Emphasising the project’s broader impact, the Minister noted that it would benefit not only Karaga but also neighbouring communities by fostering inter-district trade and strengthening local value chains.
The Minister urged the contractor to maintain high standards and adhere to timelines, while calling on local leaders to support the project, which would include essential amenities such as sanitation, storage, lighting, and security, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for users.
The 24-hour Economy Market is part of the government’s strategy to decentralise development and create sustainable economic opportunities, promising to enhance trading conditions and uplift the economic status of the Karaga District.
