The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation and resolving longstanding boundary disputes.
The ceremony took place on Saturday in Tamale, with support from the European Union and Expertise France.
The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John, said the partnership is essential for addressing administrative challenges that have plagued the region since the creation of Sagnarigu Municipality and expressed hope that this initiative would significantly boost urban planning, governance, and public service delivery in the Tamale Area.
The agreement would establish an Inter-Jurisdictional Coordination Management Committee (ICMC) and a Technical Committee to foster dialogue and identify shared priorities, particularly in sanitation and infrastructure.
Ambassador Rune Skinnebach of the European Union highlighted the importance of coordinated governance as urban areas expand beyond administrative borders, emphasising that the ICMC is a practical tool to enhance collaboration and service delivery.
Both the Mayor of Tamale and the Municipal Chief Executive of Sagnarigu echoed the significance of this partnership, asserting that effective collaboration is vital for tackling pressing issues like climate change, sanitation, and food security.
