Ghana Prisons Service Launches “Think Prisons 360°” Initiative

The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), has officially launch the flagship “Think Prisons 360°” initiative aimed to improve the welfare of officers and inmates.

This initiative will also promote agricultural mechanization, advancing industrialization and prison business ventures, create wealth, foster strategic partnerships and interventions to transform the Ghana Prisons Service.

The Launch was on   Thursday, during her visit to the Wa Central Prison.

In her keynote address at the durbar, she emphasized the need for the Service to become self-reliant through large-scale agricultural expansion, the provision of modern accommodation for officers, and the upgrading of all prison infirmaries into fully equipped clinics.

 She also highlighted the importance of building stronger partnerships in education and sanitation

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie announced that November has been designated as “Prisons Service Month,” to be celebrated annually across all prison establishments nationwide and urged officers to adopt healthy lifestyles and avoid the use of alcohol and illicit substance.

As part of her visit, she toured the Baayiri Prison Farm to gain first-hand insight into the facility’s agricultural activities and food production operations

The Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Charles Lwanga Puozing (Esq.), commended the Ghana Prisons Service for the “Think Prisons 360°” initiative and the Prison Improvement and Sustainability Pesewa Fund (PISPES).

He made a personal donation of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 5,000) towards the fund as the special guest of honor.

Regional Commander DDP Alhaji Ousmane Tasembedo (Esq.) expressed gratitude to the Director-General for her visit and for choosing Wa Central Prison as the venue for this landmark initiative.
