The Bank of Ghana has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) to suspend the implementation of its proposed 0.75 per cent fee on direct wallet-to-bank transfers.
The proposed charge, which was scheduled to take effect on 1 June 2026, has been put on hold to allow for further stakeholder consultations.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the central bank explained that the decision forms part of efforts to ensure fairness within Ghana’s mobile financial services ecosystem while safeguarding consumer interests.
According to the Bank of Ghana, any adjustment to charges related to mobile money services must be carefully reviewed to protect customers and promote financial well-being.
The central bank further noted that the suspension would provide room for broader engagement on the proposed fee and its potential impact on mobile money users and financial inclusion in the country.
The development comes amid growing public concerns over additional charges within Ghana’s digital payment and mobile money sector.
