Bank of Ghana Halts Proposed Mobile Money Transfer Fee Pending Consultation

The Bank of Ghana has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited to pause the rollout of a proposed 0.75 percent fee on direct wallet-to-bank transfers, putting the charge on hold just days before it was due to take effect.

The fee had been scheduled to come into force on 1 June 2026 but will now not be implemented until further consultation has been completed, according to a press release issued by the central bank on Tuesday.

The Bank of Ghana said the decision reflects its commitment to ensuring that any changes to charges within the mobile financial services ecosystem are introduced in a manner that is fair, protects consumers, and supports their financial wellbeing.

The move is likely to come as a relief to mobile money users who rely on wallet-to-bank transfers for everyday transactions, many of whom had raised concerns about the additional cost the charge would place on their finances.
