Ghana hosts Nigerian Military Delegation on Small Arms Control Study Tour

The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSALW) has welcomed a 66-member delegation from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Nigeria, as part of an official study tour to Ghana.

The delegation, led by Colonel MM Sani, visited the Commission to deepen their understanding of Ghana’s approaches to small arms control under the theme: “The Control and Management of Small Arms for Enhanced National Security: Leveraging on Community-Led Engagements.”

During the visit, the Nigerian officers received a comprehensive briefing on Ghana’s evolving policy framework and prospective legal reforms on arms management.

They also learned about the marking and tracing systems that strengthen accountability, as well as the Commission’s public education and community-based early-warning initiatives.

Additionally, the delegation was briefed on ongoing collaborations with security agencies and regional partners aimed at curbing the illicit flow of small arms.

The visit highlighted Ghana’s commitment to transparency and cooperation while reinforcing the shared regional responsibility in promoting peace and security.

The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons expressed its appreciation to the Ghana Armed Forces for coordinating the engagement and affirmed its commitment to continued partnership in advancing collective security efforts across the region.
