Feed Ghana Project Registers 745 Farmer Groups in Kassena-Nankana West
August 20, 2025 News 0 CommentThe District Chief Executive (DCE) of Kassena-Nankana West District, Mr. Stephen Aeke Akurugo, has disclosed that 745 farmer-based groups have been registered to benefit from the government’s Feed Ghana Project.
The initiative, launched earlier this year by President John Dramani Mahama, aims to boost food production and create jobs for the country’s youth.
Speaking at the Assembly’s first ordinary meeting on Tuesday, Mr. Akurugo explained that only duly registered farmers captured in the project’s database will be eligible for support.
“For this year, each Farmer-Based Organisation is permitted to choose either livestock or crop support. However, crop support will focus solely on fertiliser assistance,” he noted.
The DCE also encouraged individuals, schools, and churches to establish backyard gardens under the project, urging Assembly Members to take advantage of the initiative, given its multiple benefits.
Mr. Akurugo further highlighted progress under the government’s Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative, which targets the planting of 15,000 seedlings across the district.
He called on Assembly Members and residents to obtain seedlings from the Forestry Commission’s office in Navrongo.
He also outlined several ongoing projects funded by the ₵1,961,148.05 released to the Assembly in the first quarter. These include the construction and furnishing of a CHPS Compound at Amutanga, the construction of a maternity block at Mirigu, and the construction and furnishing of 3-unit classroom blocks at Boania A and Boania B. Other projects involve the drilling and solar mechanisation of boreholes with Rambo 1000 tanks for Sirigu SHS, Paga SHS, Chiana SHS, and the Zenga community, as well as the procurement of 900 dual desks for primary schools, 40 hexagonal tables, and 240 chairs for kindergarten pupils.
Mr. Akurugo announced plans for a 24-hour economy market in line with the Mahama administration’s policy.
“The Assembly will embark on refuse evacuation, maintenance of dumping sites, procurement of refuse containers, dislodging of institutional toilets, and sensitisation on WASH bye-laws,” he added.
