The delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), led by the Director for West and Central Africa, Mr. Abdouraouf Gnon Konde, has paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Interior to discuss the ongoing realignment of UNHCR operations in Ghana as part of a global restructuring process.

During a meeting held on Tuesday in Accra, Mr. Konde briefed the Ministry on UNHCR’s initiatives in Ghana, including agricultural projects designed to empower refugees and support host communities.

He emphasised the agency’s commitment to sharing expertise and strengthening collaboration with the Ghana Refugee Board to improve refugee management and integration efforts.

Mr. Konde reaffirmed UNHCR’s dedication to supporting Ghana’s refugee management framework and expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts in promoting agribusiness as a pathway to economic growth.

The Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. Okletey Terlarbi, commended UNHCR’s partnerships and initiatives, particularly its refugee integration programme, which he described as laudable.

He noted that the programme will not only contribute to Ghana’s economy but also equip refugees with valuable skills for self-reliance.

Mr. Terlarbi also praised UNHCR’s focus on agribusiness, noting that it aligns with the Government’s priority of advancing agricultural development.

The UNHCR in Ghana used the occasion to renew its commitment to working closely with the Government to ensure refugees are supported and integrated into the country’s socio-economic framework.
