The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has underscored the importance of appropriate physical planning in community development.
According to her, well planned communities will ensure data-driven decisions, rigorous technical standards, timely delivery of impactful outcomes which creates orderliness, promotes inclusivity, sustainable development, and prosperity among the residents.
The minister made these remarks when she inaugurated the District Spatial Planning Committees and Technical Sub-Committees across all the 33 Municipal and District Assemblies in the region.
Mrs. Adjei Awetey noted that orderly planned communities do not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also increase the score on the District Performance Assessment Tool and Performance Contract.
Touching on the mandate of the Committee, she said its functions will be grounded on four core principles – participatory planning, transparency, sustainability, and resilience planning.
She urged the committees to align district spatial plans with regional strategies and build a robust spatial data platform that integrates land records, cadastral data, transportation models, and environmental baselines.
The District Spatial Planning Committee will provide strategic guidance on land use, housing, transport corridors, economic zones, and environmental safeguards
The Technical Sub-Committee on the other hand, will translate policy into practicable and implementable spatial plans.
