The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Mr Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating Ghana’s digital transformation during a meeting with a delegation from Nokia at the Ministry in Accra.
He made the statement when the delegation, led by Nokia’s Country Manager for Ghana and Nigeria, Mr Marco Rebecchi, paid a courtesy call on him on Tuesday.
The visit followed earlier discussions held at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, which focused on collaboration to expand Ghana’s digital infrastructure, enhance 5G readiness, and drive innovation-led development.
Mr George commended Nokia for its sustained presence and technological leadership, describing the company as a key partner supporting all major network operators in the country. He reiterated the Ministry’s role as a facilitator of digital transformation across government sectors, including health, land administration, and public service delivery.
The discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration in emerging areas such as 5G deployment, fibre-to-home connectivity, data centre development, and digital public safety systems aimed at strengthening national resilience and improving service delivery.
The Minister emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring timely progress in 5G implementation and improving broadband reliability to support innovation, remote work, and digital inclusion.
Mr Rebecchi highlighted Nokia’s long-standing partnership with Ghana since 1998 and its contribution to major national projects, including the Eastern Corridor Fibre Network and Africa’s largest LTE rollout.
He reaffirmed Nokia’s commitment to local capacity development through its newly completed Innovation Centre in Ghana, which aims to train engineers in alignment with the Ministry’s One Million Coders Initiative.
Both parties expressed readiness to deepen cooperation over the next twelve months, focusing on innovation, rural connectivity, and sustainable digital infrastructure. Nokia also invited the Minister to visit its Centre of Excellence in Finland to explore future technology partnerships.
