The Mayor of Accra, Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has urged departmental heads of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to approach the year with a problem-solving mindset and collective responsibility to improve service to the public.
Mr Allotey stated this at the first management meeting in Accra with the leadership of the assembly, intended to map out strategies for the year.
He said the Assembly can only achieve its 2026 target if leaders and staff members cultivate positive work ethics and approach their assignments with a sense of duty, adding that the city’s transformation requires practical solutions and a consistent mindset across departments.
Mr Allotey said as part of efforts to increase productivity and promote the welfare of staff members, the Assembly was contemplating providing staff with a bus to improve punctuality and boost their morale.
Touching on his goals for the city, the mayor said the Assembly intends to build a hospital, renovate schools and roads, and work hard to change the public’s perception of the AMA as an institution.
The mayor expressed confidence in the Assembly’s capacity to deliver, urging the management to work together to present AMA in a positive light before the public.
“AMA must rise to the occasion. We can do it,” he said, adding that the Assembly’s record of innovation, including being the first to introduce a 24-hour sanitation operational arrangement, shows that it can achieve ambitious targets when leadership and staff remain focused.
The meeting also focused on the National Sanitation Day programme, decongestion within the Central Business District (CBD), performance contracting for 2026, the Assembly’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF) targets, staff durbars, as well as plans relating to logistics and equipment to support operations.
