The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the survivors, and the entire Kete Krachi community.
This is after the tragic news of a boat accident that occurred near Kete Krachi in the Oti Region, claiming the lives of fifteen people, including eleven children.
It stated this in a press statement released on Monday in Accra.
The Ministry said it stands in solidarity with the affected families and assures them of its support through the relevant agencies.
It stated, “This heartbreaking incident, which has taken the lives of so many, especially innocent children whose promising futures were cut short, is indeed a national tragedy. We commend the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) and all emergency response teams for their swift intervention and for initiating investigations into the cause of the accident.”
The Ministry further encouraged the ongoing collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring accountability and implementing stronger safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
MoGCSP also emphasised the urgent need for stricter adherence to safety protocols in all water transport operations and called on local authorities, boat operators, as well as community leaders to prioritise safety, particularly through the consistent use of life jackets and strict enforcement of regulations against overloading, to safeguard lives, especially those of children.
The statement said, “May the Almighty grant comfort and strength to the bereaved families and the Kete Krachi community during this difficult period.”
