President John Dramani Mahama has laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk, paying tribute to Belarusian and Soviet Army soldiers who died liberating the country during World War II.
The wreath-laying ceremony took place shortly after president Mahama arrived in the Belarusian capital and was witnessed by the Governor of Minsk, Vladimir Kukharev, officials of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Russia, Dr Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah.
The President had been received at the airport by Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich and a delegation of senior Belarusian officials before proceeding to the monument, where the gesture carried particular diplomatic weight.
From the monument, President Mahama proceeded to the Belagro 2026 agricultural exhibition, touring the country’s latest farming equipment, heavy machinery, and agro-industrial products in the company of Deputy Prime Minister Karankevich.
Among the exhibits the President viewed were the Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) product lineup, Minskyekspo ZAO displays, Bobruiskagromash fertilizer equipment, and a massive BelAZ-75710 haul truck.
In his remarks at the exhibition, President Mahama said the timing of the visit was deliberate, feeding directly into his administration’s vision to revolutionise Ghana’s agriculture sector by drawing on Belarus’s extensive experience in agricultural mechanisation and agro-industrial development.
While praising the quality of the machinery on display, the President made clear that any deals would be conditional on more than product quality alone.
“Flawless technical support, spare parts availability, and after-sales service are strict prerequisites for final transactions,” he emphasised.
