The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to sustainable housing and inclusive urban development as key drivers of economic growth and improved livelihoods.
The Minister made the statement during the African Ministerial Roundtable Meeting held as part of the ongoing World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
He stated the importance of housing and urban development in promoting environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and economic transformation across the continent.
He noted that well-planned and resilient cities are critical to addressing the challenges of rapid urbanisation while improving the quality of life for citizens.
Mr Adjei noted Ghana’s resolve to support the implementation of the declaration, particularly Pillar 4, which focuses on advancing sustainable human settlements and strengthening urban resilience.
He further pledged Ghana’s continued collaboration with African member states, development partners, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of practical, measurable initiatives that will promote sustainable urban growth across the continent.
According to the Minister, Ghana remains committed to policies and programmes that support inclusive urbanisation, enhance access to affordable housing, and contribute to the achievement of the aspirations outlined in Africa’s Agenda 2063.
The minister’s participation in the roundtable followed the adoption of the Nairobi Declaration at the Second Africa Urban Forum (AUF2), which reaffirmed Africa’s collective commitment to affordable, inclusive, and climate-resilient urban development.
