The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has inspected ongoing construction works on major storm drains in flood-prone areas of Accra as part of efforts to reduce the city’s perennial flooding challenges.
During a site tour on Tuesday, the Minister assessed progress at key project locations and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work carried out to improve drainage infrastructure across the capital.
At Dansoman Otojor, he observed that a 1-kilometre earth drain has been completed. The drain is designed to channel excess surface water from surrounding communities, including Tabora, Anyaa, Sowutoum, Santa Maria, Awoshie, and parts of Mallam, directing it safely into the ocean.
He also inspected ongoing works on the Kaneshie Drain Channel, which covers the Accra Academy–First Light–Kaneshie stretch. Additionally, Lot 2 of the project, extending from the Bank of Ghana Quarters through Abossey Okai and Christ Temple to the Odaw drain, is also progressing steadily.
According to the Minister, these interventions form part of a broader strategy to improve urban drainage systems and reduce the impact of heavy rainfall on residents and infrastructure.
