US Embassy Trains Photojournalists
August 14, 2025 News 0 CommentThe United States Embassy in Accra has organised a one-day workshop for photojournalists in the capital, titled “Telling the Story of America Through Photojournalism.”
The initiative aimed to equip local photojournalists with storytelling techniques and visual tools to better capture and convey the American experience, culture, and values through photography.
The training session is part of the ongoing countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Gerald Nartey, a seasoned photojournalist nominated by the US Embassy in Accra. The US Department of State fully sponsored his participation and the training program.
According to the organisers, this collaboration underscores the importance of cultural exchange and people-to-people connections ahead of the global football event next year.
Mr. Gerald Nartey, a renowned photojournalist, guided participants through various American cities, showcasing street photography techniques that captured live activities and landscapes, including mountain scenery.
He recounted how he began photography during his school days, driven by a passion to use images as a tool to educate and transform society. He urged photographers, especially the younger generation, to take a keen interest in the profession, viewing it not only as a business but also as a powerful means of telling the story of the past in the present.
The photojournalists were drawn from both professional and student bodies.
Participants expressed their gratitude to the Embassy for its kind gesture and requested more insightful training sessions in the future.
