President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to investigate allegations that an individual paid to secure a scholarship to pursue studies abroad.
Presidential spokesperson, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu announced the directive on Tuesday, stating that the President considers the allegation to be serious and of grave public concern.
The directive follows claims made by former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Mr Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, during a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.
Mr Kwakye-Ofosu stated that the discussion, which was conducted in the Twi language, has gained wide public circulation.
According to the him, President Mahama ordered the investigation in light of the government’s firm commitment to transparency, integrity, and equal access to educational opportunities.
The NIB has been directed to immediately establish the factual basis of the allegation, identify any persons involved, and determine whether the claims are true or false.
The Bureau is required to submit its findings to the President for consideration and for any appropriate action that may arise.
The directive was signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Calistus Mahama.
