Obuasi Municipal Assembly Trains Unit Committee Members Across the Municipality

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has organised a series of structured capacity-building training for Unit Committee Members, management and Assembly Members, throughout its 19 Electoral Areas.

This was aimed at boosting institutional effectiveness, improving service delivery and showcasing a holistic approach to human resource development.

Dr Fred Oduro, a senior lecturer at the Institute of Local Government Studies, highlighted the visionary leadership of Municipal Chief Executive, Faustilove Appiah Kannin and Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, for spearheading the project.

He stated, “This is the way to go in our local government system. I hope other Assemblies will emulate OMA.”

Dr Oduro emphasised the importance of the three forms of decentralisation: political, administrative, and fiscal, for effective grassroots governance.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Municipality, Madam Faustilove Appiah Kannin, encouraged participants to engage actively, viewing their roles as essential to national development.

Unit Committee Members support Assembly members in the administration of the electoral area. They are also the first point of contact in the local government system. With over 80% attendance from Unit Committee Members, the workshop underscored a strong commitment to enhancing local governance and community development initiatives.
