The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has disbursed items and provided financial support valued at over GH¢150,000.00 to Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality.
The support package included deep freezers, sewing machine setup kits, spraying machines, and other livelihood-enhancing equipment. These items were provided based on a needs assessment conducted by the Municipal Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, following requests made by the beneficiaries.
In addition to the equipment, the Assembly also settled school fees and medical bills for some beneficiaries who were identified as requiring financial assistance to support their education and health needs.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Madam Faustilove Appiah Kannin, reaffirms her commitment and that of the Assembly to PWDs Welfare. The MCE made the call at a brief ceremony to present items and financial support to PWDs in the Obuasi Municipality.
She explained that the support formed part of the District Assembly Common Fund allocation for Persons with Disabilities, stressing her resolve to ensure that beneficiaries fully receive what is due them.
“As your MCE, I will ensure that whatever is due you under the Common Fund reaches you,” she stated.
The MCE urged beneficiaries to use the items for their intended purposes, cautioning against misuse, and encouraged them to invest the support into improving their livelihoods and living conditions. She further assured them that her office remains open and accessible to them at all times.
PWD Association Expresses Appreciation, on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the Association of Persons with Disabilities, Obuasi branch Mr. Karrim Iddrus expressed profound gratitude to the Assembly and the MCE for the gesture. He commended Mad. Faustilove Appiah Kannin for her leadership and dedication in securing the support and pledged that beneficiaries would put the items and funds to good use.
The ceremony was attended by beneficiaries, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, the Municipal Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, Madam Mary Pokua Ofori, staff of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, chairman Kofi Mensah and members of the Disability Fund Management Committee.
