The Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai, has emphasised the media’s central role in shaping opinion, guiding national conversations, and reinforcing ties between civilians and the security services.
He said this at a media workshop organised by the Department of Public Relations for the Defence Press Corps on Wednesday, at the Command Officers’ Mess, Burma Camp, to deepen cooperation between military personnel and media practitioners, to minimise reporting inaccuracies.
He stated that a well-informed citizenry was indispensable to national security and democratic governance.
AVM Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai noted that the relationship between the security services and the media must be anchored in mutual trust, professionalism, accuracy, and a shared sense of national responsibility.
The Acting Director-General of the Department of Public Relations, Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, reiterated the indispensable role of communication in national development and security management. She stressed that effective communication must be grounded in trust and credibility rather than mere dissemination of information.
The Deputy Director Protocol of the Department of Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Belinda Amarteifio, highlighted the strategic importance of military–media relations in Ghana, noting its role in national security, public confidence, and institutional legitimacy.
