The Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inspected a consignment of 24,534 medical equipment set to be deployed across the country as part of preparations for the commencement of the government’s free primary healthcare initiative.
He announced this in a press statement released last week in Accra.
He said the equipment, procured by the government, will be distributed to health facilities nationwide to strengthen service delivery and improve access to essential healthcare.
The equipment includes Baby incubators, radiant warmers, and oxygen concentrators for resuscitating newborns after delivery, X-ray Machines, Vital sign monitors for checking blood pressure, temperature, Glucometers for measuring blood sugar levels for diabetes screening, patient monitors, Infusion devices, Laboratory analyzers, Delivery beds, Hospital beds, and ultrasound.
According to the Minister, the intervention forms a key part of efforts to ensure that primary healthcare services are readily available and accessible to all Ghanaians, adding that the distribution exercise will retool government hospitals and enhance their capacity to deliver quality care.
He noted that the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to building a resilient healthcare system that prioritises preventive care and early treatment, noting that the rollout of the equipment will significantly boost the efficiency of healthcare delivery at the primary level, paving the way for the successful implementation of the free primary healthcare policy.
