The Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali, has called on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Lt. Gen. William Agyapong, to strengthen collaboration aimed at enhancing maritime security and safety.
During the meeting on Thursday at Burma Camp, the Director General emphasised the importance of strategic operations involving the Ghana Navy, Ghana Air Force, and the Engineer Regiment.
Dr. Kamal-Deen observed that the Ghana Navy has continued to be a trusted partner at both policy and operational levels, emphasising the Authority’s dependence on the Navy’s support and the importance of further formalizing the relationship.
He highlighted the Air Force’s key role in search and rescue, referring to the maritime patrol aircraft operated by the Air Force among other operations with the Authority.
He also mentioned the possibility of stronger collaboration with the Engineer Regiment to enhance safety and support for the operations of Volta Lake Transport.
Lt. Gen Agyapong reaffirmed the military’s readiness to collaborate for national development and acknowledged existing capacity gaps, pledging support to improve efficiency.
