The Minister for Fisheries, Mrs Emelia Arthur, has called on FAO to assist in introducing modern fish processing technologies that can improve efficiency and value addition within the industry.
She made this remark at a high-level meeting with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Country Representative to Ghana, Priya Gujadhur.
She further urged the expansion of joint programmes to accelerate broader transformation across the sector.
A central purpose of the visit was to formally extend an invitation to the minister to participate in the 34th FAO Regional Conference for Africa, scheduled for 13th–17th April in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
During the engagement, the FAO delegation presented an overview of ongoing programmes in Ghana, spanning a broad range of initiatives designed to build a more resilient and sustainable fisheries industry.
Madam Emelia Arthur commended FAO for its continued support and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to deepening the partnership.
She highlighted that accountability and grassroots governance are the foundation for building a truly resilient sector, noting that transformation must be felt at the community level, not just at the policy level.
The meeting signalled a renewed commitment to advancing the country’s fisheries sector through strategic international partnerships.
The conference is expected to shape FAO’s strategic agenda across the continent, gathering key sector ministries to align priorities through discussions and technical workshops.
