Ghana and Ukraine have taken steps to strengthen agriculture following a visit by a Ukrainian delegation to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Accra on Wednesday.
The engagement focuses on expanding collaboration under Ukraine’s “Food from Ukraine” initiative and Ghana’s “Feed Ghana Programme,” both aimed at improving food production and access.
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, said the partnership could help reduce poverty and improve food security. He noted that the Feed Ghana Programme remains central to efforts to increase local food production and support economic growth.
Mr Opoku called for investment in storage, processing, and value addition, and stressed the need for improved seed quality to raise productivity.
The Head of the Ukrainian delegation, Denys Bashlyk, said Ukraine remains committed to supporting Ghana’s agricultural sector.
He announced plans to distribute five million seed packets to vulnerable farmers and said discussions are ongoing to establish a wheat flour processing facility in Ghana.
The visit follows the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two countries in November 2026 to promote collaboration in agriculture and food security.
It also coincided with the launch of a Food Processing and Distribution Centre, known as an Agrohub, in Ghana on April 9, 2026.
