Equip Yourself to Meet Kumasi’s High Demands – Kumasi Mayor Urges Assembly Members

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has expressed the need for Assembly members to build their capacities to meet the ever-growing demands of the city.

He acknowledged the enormity of the tasks confronting them as prescribed by the Local Governance Act, which includes executive, legislative, oversight, and other responsibilities aimed at improving the prevailing conditions of the city and its inhabitants.

In his opening address at a two-day orientation and workshop for Assembly members on Wednesday, at the Royal Lamerta Hotel, he expressed his delight at the support and cooperation of Assembly members during his first year in office.

He announced that, with their support, direction, and cooperation, along with that of other stakeholders, the city has been steadily progressing in areas such as sanitation and maintenance of law and order.

He was hopeful that more successes would be achieved after the orientation of Assembly members and urged them to take advantage of the training to excel.

The 59 Assembly members present at the training programme would be equipped with knowledge on Ghana’s decentralisation policy and governance system, roles and responsibilities of Assembly members, local government and administrative laws, and an overview of the model standing orders.

Areas like ethics, transparency and accountability, local revenue mobilisation, local economic development, and job creation would also be covered by local government experts.
