The Minister for Education, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that President John Dramani Mahama has directed that a bill be presented before Parliament to facilitate the establishment of the National Defence University of Ghana.
Mr Iddrisu disclosed this during an inspection of the National Defence University construction site at Teshie in Accra, where he visited with the Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr Ernest Brogya Genfi, to assess the current state of work and evaluate the pace and direction of development on the project.
According to the Minister, the proposed university will bring together relevant defence-related colleges under a unified institutional framework, aimed at strengthening training, research, and strategic development within the Ghana Armed Forces and other security services.
He also indicated that funding for the project will be supported by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), stressing the Ministry of Education’s commitment to ensuring the successful development and completion of the facility.
For his part, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, expressed profound appreciation to the Minister for Education for his sustained support toward the National Defence University initiative.
Lt. Gen. Agyapong reaffirmed the military’s unwavering commitment to advancing the project to ensure its successful completion within the stipulated timeframe.
