First Lady Joins World’s First Spouses in Washington for Digital Safety Summit

First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama, is in Washington D.C. to attend the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit.

The objective of the two-day gathering of first spouses from across the world convened by United States First Lady Melania Trump is to discuss strategies for a more secure and equitable digital future for children.

Mrs Mahama is attending at the personal invitation of the US First Lady, according to a statement signed by Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

The summit brings together first spouses from across the world to address the growing conversation around children’s safety in an increasingly digital world, with discussions focused on practical strategies to protect children online while ensuring that technology serves as a tool for empowerment rather than harm.

Ahead of the summit, Mrs Mahama set out Ghana’s position clearly.

“Ghana stands ready to ensure technology becomes a force for empowerment, not endangerment, for every child.

“Our children’s future is our shared moral duty and generational responsibility,” she added, framing Ghana’s participation not as a courtesy appearance but as a commitment to the broader global effort to safeguard children in the digital age.
