CSA and Ghana Police Intensify Efforts Against Cybercrime
August 5, 2025 Communication 0 CommentThe Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in partnership with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has ramped up efforts to disrupt cybercrime and cyber-enabled human trafficking networks operating within the country.
During a joint press conference held on Monday, the CSA provided detailed updates on four intelligence-led operations conducted between May and July 2025, part of Ghana’s broader strategy to enhance national cyber resilience and protect victims of digital exploitation.
According to CSA, the first operation took place on July 4, 2025, at the Ubuntu Estate in Dodowa. Acting on intelligence from an informant, authorities arrested 25 foreign nationals, predominantly from Nigeria. Among them, 23 were identified as victims and successfully repatriated, while two Ghanaian suspects were taken into custody at CID Headquarters for further investigation. This operation also resulted in the seizure of 40 laptops, 30 mobile phones, and Starlink internet equipment.
On July 17, 2025, a second operation targeted a suspected cybercrime hub in Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro. Here, 16 individuals were arrested, including 13 foreign nationals undergoing repatriation and three Ghanaian nationals currently in custody. Authorities seized 22 laptops and 11 mobile phones from the site.
The third operation, conducted on July 28, 2025, near Junction Mall in the Teshie-Nungua area, led to the arrest of 14 individuals, comprising 13 foreign nationals and one Ghanaian. Investigations and victim identification are ongoing.
From May 29 to June 1, a targeted operation in Sogakope uncovered a local cybercrime syndicate engaged in impersonation scams. Ten Ghanaians were arrested for impersonating Members of Parliament and public figures. Notably, the ringleader, who initially escaped, was apprehended in Sege on June 1 and is currently in police custody.
These operations underscore the CSA’s commitment to securing Ghana’s digital ecosystem, protecting vulnerable individuals, and enhancing national cyber resilience through coordinated enforcement.
The Authority expressed gratitude to its staff, the CID, international partners, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of these joint efforts.
